Network for Endangered Sea Turtles 24 HR. HOTLINE 252-441-8622

Even the evening thundershowers couldn’t keep our turtles away.  Jerry was riding in south Nags Head when he came across a rather short crawl that ended just shy of the high tide line.  “Could it be another false crawl?  Wait… I think there’s a nest site!”.

Nesting responders locate the egg chamber.

Christian arrived on scene and confirmed that this nest would need to be relocated due to it’s location below the average high tide line.  So as the Nesting Response Team arrived one-by-one, they prepared for relocation to the foot of the dune.

The relocated egg chamber is made to the same measurements as the original.

So the Nesting Response team removed each egg carefully, one by one, and placed them in egg cartons until they were all located and taken to the new nest site.  After 146 eggs (!!!), the job was finally done!

Nesting responders carefully remove each egg, preserving their original order.
