Ellen Rowe lives in Northern Virginia. Her family vacations on the Outer Banks and she has had the opportunity to attend a sea turtle nest. Ellen has taken action for the survival of one of nature’s finest, the threatened and endangered sea turtles.
Ellen attends Lorien Wood School, a small K-8 private Christian school in Vienna, Virginia, with a strong emphasis on outdoor education and integral curriculum. Every 7th grade student creates their own two-year “Do Hard Things” project. Inspired by her first experience seeing a sea turtle nest roped off in Corolla during her family’s annual summer vacation, she designed a project that combined her interests in computer programming and drawing with her love of marine animals. She founded Tees for Turtles to help raise money and awareness for sea turtles and N.E.S.T. She designed original T-shirts with a couple of her drawings, and programmed a website using HTML and CSS. This winter, she plans to launch an updated website with an online store to continue to raise money for N.E.S.T. Visit her website at teesforturtles.org.
