Duck’s Cottage Coffee & Books in Duck, NC and Downtown Books in Manteo, NC is pleased to be bringing best-selling author in the faith based fiction genre, Lisa Wingate, on September 24th. In fact, her 2013 novel The Prayer Box (set on Hatteras Island) was the number one best seller at Downtown Books for 2013-2014. Lisa is a wonderful writer, and person, with a loyal fan base and is going to be making another trip to the area this fall. She has a new book coming out in September called The Story Keeper which she will be promoting. Lisa will be at both stores during the day on September 24 for book signings and will then be making an appearance at the Dare County Arts Council in Manteo that evening as part of their Books on the Banks Speaker Series. An author book-talk and reading will begin at 6:00 pm on the second floor of the Dare County Arts Council in their new renovated space in the old courthouse in downtown Manteo. Lisa wants this portion to be a fund-raiser for the Network for Endangered Sea Turtles (N.E.S.T.) and so they will be promoting it with a $5 suggested donation to N.E.S.T. for attendees. N.E.S.T. will also have a small merchandise and informational table at the event. N.E.S.T. is very thankful for all the groups involved for making this special event happen and for helping sea turtles in the process!!
Below is some more information about the author and the event.
“The third event in our Books on the Banks speaker series features best-selling author Lisa Wingate. Lisa penned The Prayer Box, a wonderful novel about reinvention and redemption that was set on Hatteras Island and has consistently been one of our best-selling novels. Lisa’s latest book is The Story Keeper, a great story set in Appalachia that weaves together a modern day search for a lost manuscript and the 19th century love story it documents. Lisa has had over 20 best sellers in the faith based fiction genre and has earned many awards, accolades and a loyal fan base.
Meet us at the Dare County Arts Council at 6pm to hear Lisa read from both of these novels and talk about her craft. More about The Story Keeper- “Successful New York editor, Jen Gibbs, is at the top of her game until a mysterious manuscript from an old slush pile appears on her desk. Turning the pages, Jen finds herself drawn into the life of Sarra, a young girl trapped by dangerous men in the turn of the century Appalachia. A risky hunch may lead to The Story Keeper’s hidden origins and its unknown author, but when the trail turns toward the heart of the Blue Ridge, a place Jen thought she’d left behind forever, the price of a blockbuster next book deal may be higher than she’s willing to pay.” Selected among BOOKLIST’S Top 10 of 2012 and Top 10 of 2013, Lisa Wingate skillfully weaves lyrical writing and unforgettable Southern settings with elements of women’s fiction, history, and mystery to create stories that Publisher’s Weekly calls “Masterful” and ForeWord Magazine refers to as “Filled with lyrical prose, hope, and healing.” Lisa is a journalist, an inspirational speaker, a reviewer for the New York Journal of Books, and the author of over over twenty novels and countless magazine pieces.
This event is a fund-raiser for N.E.S.T. (Network for Endangered Sea Turtles), a suggested donation is $5. Seating is first come, first serve.”
