After weeks of cold water keeping the turtles south, last night around 10:45PM we got a call from Currituck dispatch with a report of a sea turtle emerging from the ocean in Carova! Despite their best efforts to keep the scene calm and welcoming, the turtle took one look around and made a nearly immediate U-turn. So we’ll list this one as a false crawl.
The team was hopeful she would slip back out later in the evening to finish the job but we awoke with no signs of her return. Maybe she went just a mile north and crossed into Virginia territory or maybe… just maybe… we’ll see her somewhere tonight? (keep your fingers crossed!)
