The 2017 sea turtle nesting season is upon us. Sea turtle nest response trainng is in full swing and some trained NEST volunteers are at the ready for the 1st sea turtle nest discovery. The schedule for nesting response training and signing up as a NEST volunteer can be found on the NEST website at: www.nestonline.org under the volunteer tab or by clicking here.
The NEST All terran vehicles (ATV) have been serviced and drivers trained. On May 1 the ATV patrols will begin their search for sea turtle nests on the Outer Banks. The newer vehicles of the NEST ATV fleet are red and not the familiar NEST ATV green. Why? The color red adds better visability of the ATV and Peggy, the fleet route coordinator likes red.
While on the beach, if you see a sea turtle or tracks that look something like the picture below call the NEST hotline at 252-441-8622. The NEST hotline is monitored 24/7.
