Albert had one strike to the head and two to his carapace that went through the bone of the shell but had not done internal damage. A CT scan in Raleigh a few days following his arrival showed that the strike to the head had splintered his skull and shards had gotten into the brain casing and into some brain tissue. This would have compromised his quality of life and the vet advised euthanasia.
