Nesters dig in to locate the eggs.

Nesters dig in to locate the eggs.

Nest #10 rolled in this morning on the north end of Duck.  Mom picked an excellent site right next to the foot of the dunes in front of an undeveloped lot.  Nesting responders had to hike in for this one but it was well worth the trip.

This nest was a little tricky because mom crawled over her nest site on the way out but the team still prevailed and located the egg chamber. Once they collected the DNA sample, the site was quickly covered back up and stakes were placed to keep the turtles safe for the next two months.

Prior to this year, the most number of nests we have had up to June 15th had been 4.  This season is off to a hot start!
