On October 24, 2017, the NEST hotline got a call about sea turtle eggs on the beach in South Nags Head. Volunteers Steph and Rich responded and found open eggs shells on the beach. The egg chamber was exposed and they found evidence of possible animal digging at the nest. After excavation and an inventory and examination of the nest, volunteers verified that development of the embryos had stopped. It was suspected that over wash of the nest was the cause. Steph and Rich put everything back in the nest and left it to nourish the beach.
